About the Opportunity

We are seeking a proactive and organised Kanban Officer to join Austal Ships Supply Chain department as part of the Warehouse and Logistics team.

This is a newly created role responsible for coordinating and maintaining the Kanban replenishment system across Austal’s Western Australian sites. The successful candidate will help ensure production teams have consistent access to the consumables and materials required to maintain operational continuity.

This is a multi-site position that requires regular travel between Austal locations. A valid manual driver’s licence is therefore essential.

While Kanban management will be the primary focus, this remains a hands-on warehousing position. The successful candidate will also be expected to perform the full range of general warehouse duties and support the broader Warehouse and Logistics team as operational requirements change.

Reporting to the Warehouse & Logistics Manager/Lead, this position offers the opportunity to take ownership of an important company-wide replenishment process while contributing to inventory accuracy, material availability and continuous improvement.

What’s Involved

• Coordinate and maintain Kanban replenishment systems across Austal sites.
• Monitor stock consumption and replenish consumables and materials within agreed service levels.
• Regularly travel between Austal sites to inspect, replenish and maintain Kanban inventory.
• Monitor stock availability and promptly communicate shortages or supply concerns.
• Maintain accurate inventory records through timely transactions in IFS.
• Complete stock verification, cycle counting and inventory discrepancy investigations.
• Support the establishment and continuous improvement of Kanban systems at new and existing locations.
• Work closely with production, procurement, material planning and warehouse teams to maintain material availability.
• Identify opportunities to improve inventory accuracy, replenishment methods and material flow.
• Receive and receipt incoming goods against purchase orders.
• Load and unload trucks and delivery vehicles using appropriate material-handling equipment.
• Complete put-away, storage, picking, packing, dispatch and internal material movements.
• Process and complete stores ticket requests.
• Support warehouse calibration processes and associated inventory movements.
• Provide operational support within the Consumable Store.
• Perform general warehouse duties across Austal sites as required.
• Maintain compliance with Austal’s safety, quality and environmental requirements.

You’ll Need

Essential

• Previous experience in warehouse operations, inventory control, stock replenishment or a similar role.
• A current High Risk Work Licence – Forklift.
• A current manual driver’s licence.
• A current White Card.
• The ability and willingness to travel regularly between Austal sites.
• Experience using an ERP or inventory-management system, with IFS experience highly regarded.
• Understanding of inventory accuracy, FIFO principles, cycle counting and safe material-handling practices.
• Effective communication, organisation and time-management skills.
• The ability to manage changing priorities within a fast-paced operational environment.
• A proactive approach to safety, customer service and continuous improvement.
• Confidence working independently while remaining part of a broader multi-site warehouse team.

Desirable

• Dangerous Goods (DG) handling experience
• Certificate in Warehouse Operations or a related qualification.
• Previous experience working with Kanban replenishment systems.
• Experience using IFS ERP.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
• Continuous-improvement experience.
• Experience within a manufacturing, defence, maritime or shipbuilding environment.
